Universities
The University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine, the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network (SWOMEN) and Gateway are developing an exciting partnership. The intent is to expose medical learners to rural community clinical practice, in order to develop their research skills. The focus will be on rural health and rural populations in Southwestern Ontario and utilize health care providers in Huron and Perth Counties.
University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy
Gateway is partnering with University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy in three primary ways. Gateway has become a co-op employer to the undergraduate Pharmacy students, is supporting the shared faculty position of Dr. Feng Chang, Assistant Professor in Rural Primary Care and is collaborating on research studies that will strengthen the role of rural pharmacies in the delivery of innovative and real-world healthcare solutions.
McMaster University Michael DeGroote School of Medicine
Gateway is partnering with McMaster and providing opportunities for integrated clerkship training, elective rotations and research skills in both the Seaforth and Clinton Family Health Teams. McMaster’s integrated clerkship is based on students learning curriculum in real clinical environments and fits well with the needs of rural primary care medicine. Further collaborations are planned and include interdisciplinary/interprofessional exchanges.
Colleges
Through HealthKick, Georgian College offers Practical Nursing, Food Service Worker, IV/NG Catherization Review and Personal Support Worker Programs. These programs support local health care jobs and professional development.

They work in conjunction with rural Family Health Teams, rural health research studies and other clinical environments, in order to provide youth work placements, student internships and professional development.
Their work and partnership has received national attention with a 2008 Community Futures Initiative Award. www.healthkickhuron.ca
